Novak on roll in London

Djokovic had embraced the role of clear favourite ahead of the last-16 phase encounter with Sela and only announced he would be giving his all. The performance that he put on will surely worry his next opponent – Germany’s Tommy Haas – as this was a much more convincing play than the one Djokovic gave in the Halle Open final.
The world’s number four looked even more in-form than against Mardy Fish in the previous round. The serve was finally there – both a high first-serve percentage and the 11 aces – and Djokovic radiated calmness even when he was break points down.
In the opening set Djokovic saved three break points in the third game, but broke Sela in the sixth to make it 4-2. He was unchallenged in the following two games and the Serb claimed the first set after 28 minutes of play.
The Israeli underdog, who had put on excellent performances beforehand, beating Tommy Robredo and last season’s semi-finalist Rainar Schuettler, offered more resistance in the second set, which was still not enough to bring him on level terms with Djokovic. The Serb broke Sela at 4-3 to make it 5-3, but Sela responded by re-breaking for 5-4. However, Djokovic cruised through the next game and took an overall 2-0 set lead.

Partizan kick off against Wales amateurs

As much as it would be hard to imagine Partizan feature in the Champions League final on 22 May next year in Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu, the first step towards the safety of group stage should not present a challenge at all. The draw procedure has been kind towards the Serbian champions, while Partizan boss Slavisa Jokanovic confirms the good news from Nyon.
- “Judging by the club coefficients, we were lucky. I am not familiar with Rhyl. They probably play the British style of football, similar to that of English sides, but whoever we play at this stage, our aim remains the same. It’s important that we play the return leg at home, while we have very little time to prepare for the first competitive fixture of the new season, but I’m confident we’ll be ready for the Rhyl challenge and eventually qualify for the third round.”
Partizan sporting director Ivan Tomic is pleased with the draw outcome, especially with the fact his side have avoided a trip to one of the former Soviet Union countries.
- “I am glad for the fact. There’s not much to say, because Rhyl are a complete unknown for us. We are favourites, but we need to show it on the pitch. The flight to Wales isn’t a lengthy one, and I’m sure the pitch will be in fine condition. We have to approach the double-header with utmost serenity and it’s good news the return leg is played in Belgrade.”
Partizan squad travelled to their mountain training camp on Tara yesterday, where they will do the first stage of their pre-season preparations and play three friendlies. The first game is against Perucac, with prospective matches against Buducnost and Berane. On their return to Belgrade, the black-whites will have their dress rehearsal before the Champions League qualifying campaign starts, but the name of the opposition in the final exhibition match is yet to be disclosed. The Partizan squad coach Jokanovic will have at his disposal for the forthcoming 13 days includes: Mladen Bozovic, Darko Bozovic, Radosavljevic (goalkeepers), Sinisa Stevanovic, Ivan Stevanovic, Djordjevic, Krstajic, Knezevic, Kosoric, Gavrancic, Sikimic, Stevic (defenders), Moreira, Marceta, Petrovic, Branislav Jovanovic, Ljajic, Vujovic (midfield), Cleo, Bogunovic, Ilic, Washington, Diarra (forwards).
Five Partizan players are currently with the Serbia U21 team at the European Championship in Sweden. Marko Jovanovic, Brezancic, Obradovic, Fejsa and Tomic will join the rest of the squad after Serbia’s appearance at the competition.
Champions League group stage begins on 15 and 16 September, while the final day of the first round is played on 8 and 9 December. First leg matches of the first knockout round are scheduled for 16, 17, 23 and 24 February 2010, with the return legs played on 9, 10, 16 and 17 March. The quarter-final is played on 30 and 31 March, with the second legs played on 6 and 7 April. The semi-final is scheduled for 20 and 21 April (1st leg) and 27 and 28 April (2nd leg). The Champions League final is played on 22 May in Madrid.

Djokovic cruising with his girlfriend

Jelena and Novak will embark on a yacht on the 10th of July from Monaco and will end their trip on the luxurious yacht after a month, because Novak plans to take part in the Rogers Cup in Canada starting from the 8th of August. They plan to see the coasts of Spain, Italy, France… but they will spend the longest period of time in Croatia in Umag, where the renowned tennis player wants to play double with his brother Marko.
“Novak will go on a cruising trip as soon as the Wimbledon Championship ends. Jelena and he can’t wait to spend time together. Jelena has recently started working in Monte Carlo, while Novak is, as always, training and this will be a unique opportunity for them to dedicate to each other and make their love stronger. They will spend some time on a yacht and later they will be joined by other members of the Djokovic family,” says a person close to the successful tennis player.
From the time they started dating three years ago, Jelena and Novak have spent every summer together during the breaks between the tennis matches and their favorite destination were the exotic Maldives.
A year ago, the famous tennis player ordered a luxury yacht “Manhattan 60” which is supposed to be finished soon, so until the beginning of the trip it will be anchored in Monte Carlo, since Djokovics think that Monte Carlo is the safest place for the new “toy”. The “Sunseeker” yacht has been ordered through the branch of a world-famous yachting company for the countries of former Yugoslavia and cost about 2,5-million dollars. The exclusive yacht has four cabins, a salon, kitchen, bathroom and a speedboat. The living-room covers two sections, one of which can be turned into a dining-room. The furniture is mostly of white leather with prevailing wooden elements. There are also several wide plasma screens, excellent sound system and a mini-bar. The ceiling is mostly covered with leather, but partly with Plexiglas, so the Djokovics will also be able to enjoy the view of the moon and stars. The bedroom walls are made of wood, with a big double bed in the middle. The bathroom is extremely luxurious, with a shower and Jacuzzi. The yacht is 19,6 meters long, with a speed of 32 knots per hour. The capacity of the petrol tank is 3,000 liters, while the fresh water tank capacity is about 700 liters.

I love decent men with clear life goals

In the last three years, you have been considered as the most attractive tennis player, on FHM list of the most beautiful women you are on the 23rd place, and “The Age” magazine categorize you as the most beautiful tennis player of all times.
“I am flattered when I hear that, but I don’t see myself that way. I am focused on tennis, and “good looks” don’t help me a lot on the tennis court. The most important thing is how I play.”
From a point of view of an ordinary person, you have all that a girl would ever want (beauty, talent, top results…) Do you have any unfulfilled wishes?
“Thank you for the compliments. I still have a lot of goals. For example, I want to win the grand slam tournaments. When I finish my career as a tennis player, I hope to have a family with at least three children.”
What kid of guys do you like and is it difficult to win your heart?
“I love gentlemen! Nice manners are of extreme importance. It is also important that he wants to help and that he is decent. I also like guys with clear goals in life! It also helps if they are tall.”
Do you ever have a feeling that they are scared to approach you and what attitude do you have when it happens?
“I don’t go to clubs. I am usually with my team and family when I show up in public, so I am sure that they are scared to approach me. Apart from that, I hope that I am not a scary person, I am very relaxed and friendly,” says Ana.
This is only a part of the interview with one of the most beautiful tennis players in the world. The rest you can read in the new edition of the “Puls” magazine…
